When your mind won’t give you a break.

Have you ever noticed yourself getting stuck in a spiral of negative thoughts? One small thing goes wrong, and suddenly your mind tells you the whole day is ruined. You start believing you are not good enough, or that everyone around you is judging you. What began as a single thought quickly snowballs into a heavy weight that colors everything you do. These spirals are common, and they can feel impossible to break.

At Hamlett Health Psychotherapy, CBT gives you practical tools to notice the patterns, challenge them, and shift them into something more positive. Visit us for CBT in Madison, NJ or online across New Jersey.

How We Help

Cognitive Restructuring

CBT helps you identify unhelpful thought patterns and replace them with more balanced and realistic ones. For example, if your mind jumps to “I always mess things up,” you will learn how to challenge that thought and create a healthier perspective.

Behavioral Strategies

Together, we focus on actions that build new habits and healthier routines. This might include gradually facing situations you have been avoiding, breaking tasks into smaller steps, or setting up practical systems that support your goals.

Coping Skills

You will gain tools to manage stress, calm anxious thoughts, and handle strong emotions. These strategies are designed to give you support in your daily life, not only during therapy sessions.

Problem-Solving

CBT provides a clear framework for approaching challenges. You will learn how to step back, view problems with greater clarity, and take steady, constructive action.

Mind-Body Awareness

Relaxation and grounding techniques, such as breathing exercises or guided imagery, can help ease tension and support your ability to manage both emotional and physical stress.

ABOUT US

Why Work With Hamlett Health Psychotherapy

“It’s easy to feel overwhelmed in a life full of demands without the support, acknowledgement or tools you need to succeed.”

Growing up as the seventh of eight children, I mastered the art of observation. I learned to navigate complex relationship dynamics and understand that each of us experiences life uniquely. This insight was deepened by my time volunteering at a group foster home for teen moms, where I saw first-hand the power of feeling heard and acknowledged.

Life can be hard and busy going through our days holding onto so much, stuck in our worlds, and often never allowing ourselves to process, think deeply, or express how we truly feel before we are onto the next thing. Sometimes, all we need is someone to sit with us and truly listen.

With over 23 years of experience, I developed Hamlett Health Psychotherapy practice to provide a safe and nurturing environment where clients can openly discuss their thoughts, emotions, and relationships. Each treatment plan is customized to promote healing and help you develop resilience, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Let's transform life's challenges into stepping stones for growth.

At Hamlett Health Psychotherapy, we provide care that is:

Frequently Asked Questions About Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is a type of talk therapy that helps you understand how your thoughts, feelings, and actions are all connected. When your thoughts get stuck in unhelpful patterns, they can make stress, anxiety, or low mood worse. In CBT, you’ll learn to spot those patterns, challenge them, and replace them with ways of thinking that actually support you. Over time, this helps you feel calmer, more balanced, and more in control.

CBT is known for being one of the most effective therapies out there. It can help with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, OCD, chronic pain, stress, anger, and even sleep problems like insomnia. Because it’s focused on building real-life skills, it works for both short-term struggles and longer-term challenges.

Everyone’s different, but many people start to feel a shift within 6 to 20 CBT sessions at Hamlett Health Psychotherapy. Some notice improvements in just a few weeks, while others take a little longer. The best part is that the tools you pick up in CBT stick with you, so the benefits often last long after therapy ends.

In a CBT session at Hamlett Health Psychotherapy, you’ll talk with your therapist about what’s been on your mind and how it’s affecting your life. Together, you’ll identify unhelpful thought patterns and replace them with more helpful ways of thinking and coping. There’s usually a bit of “homework” between sessions where you can practice a technique or pay attention to your thoughts, so you can bring what you’re learning into your day-to-day life.

For many people, CBT works as well as medication, especially for mild to moderate anxiety and depression. Some people find the combination of both is the most helpful. Your therapist can work with your doctor if needed to make sure you’ve got the right kind of support.
