ABOUT US
Why Work With Hamlett Health Psychotherapy
“It’s easy to feel overwhelmed in a life full of demands without the support, acknowledgement or tools you need to succeed.”
Growing up as the seventh of eight children, I mastered the art of observation. I learned to navigate complex relationship dynamics and understand that each of us experiences life uniquely. This insight was deepened by my time volunteering at a group foster home for teen moms, where I saw first-hand the power of feeling heard and acknowledged.
Life can be hard and busy going through our days holding onto so much, stuck in our worlds, and often never allowing ourselves to process, think deeply, or express how we truly feel before we are onto the next thing. Sometimes, all we need is someone to sit with us and truly listen.
With over 23 years of experience, I developed Hamlett Health Psychotherapy practice to provide a safe and nurturing environment where clients can openly discuss their thoughts, emotions, and relationships. Each treatment plan is customized to promote healing and help you develop resilience, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose3

Frequently Asked Questions About Stress Management Therapy
How can therapy help me manage my stress more effectively than my current coping strategies?
Therapy can offer a deeper and more effective approach to managing stress compared to your current coping strategies. A therapist provides professional guidance, helping you identify the underlying causes of your stress—things you may not even be aware of. Stress management therapy also offers structured techniques, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or mindfulness practices, which have been proven to help with stress. Unlike general advice, these strategies are tailored specifically to you and your situation, making them more effective.
In therapy, you’ll also develop new skills for emotional regulation and problem-solving, which can make stress feel less overwhelming. Additionally, having a therapist gives you a safe, supportive space to talk through your feelings and frustrations. This emotional release can help ease the burden of stress, while regular sessions help keep you accountable, ensuring you’re applying the tools and techniques in your daily life. Ultimately, therapy provides long-term solutions by helping you build resilience and make lifestyle changes that lead to lasting stress reduction.
Are there specific techniques or tools that I will learn in therapy to help me handle stress in everyday life?
Yes, therapy equips you with a variety of practical tools to manage stress in your daily life. One key technique is cognitive restructuring, which helps you identify negative thought patterns and replace them with more balanced, realistic thoughts. You’ll also learn mindfulness and meditation techniques, like deep breathing or body scans, which help keep you grounded and calm during stressful moments.
Stress management therapy can also help you develop better time management skills, breaking down tasks into manageable steps to reduce feelings of overwhelm. Relaxation techniques, such as progressive muscle relaxation or yoga, can help relieve physical tension. If you’re struggling with decision-making or problem-solving, therapy offers structured ways to tackle challenges more effectively.
In addition, you’ll explore self-care strategies to prioritize activities that support your well-being, as well as communication skills to help you express your needs and feelings more assertively. Techniques like gratitude practices can also shift your focus from stress to more positive aspects of life. All of these tools not only help in the moment but also contribute to long-term emotional health and resilience.
When should I seek professional help for stress?
It’s a good idea to seek professional help for stress if you feel it’s become chronic or overwhelming, especially if it’s been affecting you for weeks or months with no improvement. Stress can take a toll on your physical health too—persistent headaches, digestive problems, or trouble sleeping are common signs that stress is becoming unmanageable. If stress is interfering with your ability to work, maintain relationships, or keep up with daily activities, it might be time to talk to someone.
Emotionally, if you’re feeling anxious, sad, or irritable to the point where it’s hard to cope, a therapist can help. If you find yourself avoiding situations or people you used to enjoy, or if you’re turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms like alcohol or drugs, those are clear signs that professional support could be beneficial. And, of course, if you’re ever having thoughts of self-harm or suicide, seeking help immediately is crucial. Therapy can provide effective tools and strategies to help you manage stress and improve your overall well-being.
What are the main causes of stress?
The causes of stress can vary from person to person, but some common triggers include work-related stress, like high job demands, tight deadlines, or conflicts at work. Major life changes, such as moving, getting married, or losing a loved one, can also cause significant stress. Financial concerns—whether it’s debt or job insecurity—are often a major source of stress.
Health problems, either your own or a family member’s, can contribute to ongoing stress, as can relationship difficulties with partners, friends, or family. For students, academic pressure is a common source of stress. Events that involve uncertainty or fear, like political instability or global crises, can also raise stress levels. Perfectionism can add to stress, as setting unrealistic expectations can lead to feelings of inadequacy. Finally, social isolation and everyday hassles like traffic or time management can accumulate and cause stress.
Can stress impact my physical health?
Yes, stress can have a significant impact on your physical health. Chronic stress can increase your heart rate and blood pressure, putting you at risk for cardiovascular issues like heart disease and stroke. It can also lead to digestive problems, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), acid reflux, or stomach ulcers. Over time, stress can weaken your immune system, making you more vulnerable to infections and illnesses.
Physically, stress often causes muscle tension, particularly in the neck, shoulders, and back, leading to pain and discomfort. Stress also affects your sleep patterns, causing insomnia or disrupted sleep, which in turn can worsen your overall health. You might also notice weight changes, whether it’s weight gain from stress eating or loss of appetite. Skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne can flare up due to stress, and it can worsen chronic health conditions such as asthma or hypertension. Managing stress is not just important for mental health—it’s crucial for your physical well-being as well.
